Studies on Gall Bladder Function

چکیده
The data obtained from the experiments on dogs reported in this paper lead us to conclude that bile pigment is not absorbed from the gall bladder bile. The mean loss of pigment is so small when compared with the amount of water lost that it is negligible. Our cholesterol data do not support the concept that this substance is secreted into the gall bladder bile of the dog under normal conditions. In the majority of experiments there was a loss of cholesterol. Indeed we have failed to find any evidence of definite secretion or absorption save in the case of the infected gall bladder. We are led to conclude, as did Rous and McMaster (15) with regard to bile pigment, that normally there is no absorption of cholesterol.

Primary culture of bovine gall bladder epithelial cells.
Gall bladder epithelial cells serve numerous biological functions and abnormalities in their function are important in the pathogenesis of several gall bladder diseases. Direct studies on cell function are rare due to lack of reliable methods to culture this epithelium. This study reports a reliable and reproducible method of harvesting and culturing gall bladder epithelial cells. Normal bovine...
متن کاملStudies on Gall Bladder Function Viii. the Fate of Bile Pigment and Cholesterol in Hepatic Bile Subjected to Gall Bladder Activity by Cecilia
Eleven years have passed since Rous and McMaster (15) published their paper on the concentrating activity of the gall bladder. This contribution and subsequent ones by them and their associates renewed the interest of investigators in this organ. Two schools have developed, each with a different fundamental concept of gall bladder function. The one, following what would appear to be the more lo...
متن کاملIs persistent opacification of the gall bladder on cholecystography an indication for cholecystectomy?
THERE is a widespread reluctance amongst surgeons to undertake cholecystectomy on the basis of symptoms alone. These views derive from early studies suggesting an unacceptable incidence of the post-cholecystectomy syndrome in such cases.' There is however, a well recognised group of patients with typical biliary tract symptoms and normal oral cholecystography ('stoneless symptoms') who pose con...
متن کاملGall bladder emptying in normal subjects--a data base for clinical cholescintigraphy.
Biliary excretion scintigraphy with a cholagogic test meal may be used to assess patients with suspected disorders of gall bladder motility. The interpretation of results is frustrated, however, by the lack of information about the range of normal responses in a form suitable for comparative analysis. We present the results of 41 gall bladder emptying studies on 32 normal healthy subjects (14 m...

Background & Aim: Gall bladder carcinoma is 2% to 4% of gastrointestinal malignancies. Approximately 1% to 2% of patients under billiary duct surgeries are cases of gall bladder carcinoma. It has the incidence rate of 3 to 4 times more in females than in males. 90 to 70% of patients with gall bladder carcinoma have billiary stone. Patients & Methods: The present retrospective observational ...
متن کاملLongterm effects of endoscopic sphincterotomy on gall bladder motility.
BACKGROUND Some of patients with an intact gall bladder develop acute cholecystitis or have gall bladder stone formation after endoscopic sphincterotomy. Endoscopic sphincterotomy may affect gall bladder motility. AIMS To prospectively evaluate longterm effect of endoscopic sphincterotomy on gall bladder motility. PATIENTS Thirty two patients with an intact gall bladder (15 with and 17 with...
